Jose Antonio Garcia is a young master winemaker in the Bierzo region of north western Spain. This hidden gem of a wine is beautifully crafted, working with old bush-vine Mencia. The majority of the vines are between 60-100 years old, with others being 200 years old. Old vines tend to produce exceptional fruit, just less and less of it. His practices are strictly organic and all vineyard and winery work is done between him and his wife Julia Peña Garcia.
Mencia is not grown in many places in the world, but has found a pocket of support in Spain. The wines tend to be medium bodied and have floral and fruit aromatics and often gets compared to Pinot Noir. Jose Garcia ages this wine for four months in oak foudres and bottles it unfined and unfiltered.
