Queen of the Sierra, Estate Red

 One of the original counties of California, Calaveras has a long wine history connected to the Gold Rush in the 1850s. Many vineyards were planted to meet the growing population and demand for wine. After the boom, population dwindled and vineyards were abandoned. 

The Rorick Heritage Estate Vineyard, from which these grapes were harvested, sits at 2000' elevation on soil comprised of schist on limestone. The fruit is hand-picked and the wine is aged in neutral oak. This wine in particular is a dynamic blend filled with ripe red fruit, yet has soft tannic structure and balanced acidity.
